Day 1

Arrival & Visit to Meenakshi Amman Temple

When you reach Madurai, you begin your journey in the grand temples and rich cultural history of the place. Upon arrival, check-in at your hotel and take some time to enjoy before you go for your temple tour.

Meenakshi Amman Temple is one of the most stunning and sacred temples in South India, and the first stop. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar (Shiva), it is a work of art with splendid carved towers (gopurams), colourful sculptures and a sacred pond.

Alagar Kovil & Thiruparankundram Temple

Visit Alagar Kovil, a majestic temple situated in the Alagar Hills, 20 km from Madurai, a temple devoted to Lord Vishnu (Alagar), still beautiful with fine stone carvings and tranquil surroundings. It was according to legend that Lord Alagar came to Madurai for the marriage of Sundareswarar and Meenakshi. The temple is also located in the heart of the hill and has a divine charm, other than being amid the natural setting of a hill shrouded with greenery.

Next, visit Thiruparankundram Temple, one of the six sacred abodes of Lord Murugan. Lord Murugan married Deivanai, the daughter of Lord Indra here in this rock-cut temple, it is believed. It is a spiritual and historical site with a lot of carved structures, massive pillars and built-in cave architecture.

Koodal Azhagar Temple and Departure

The Koodal Azhagar Temple, a famous Vaishnavite Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is exactly what you will visit on your last day in Madurai.
